Some personal details won’t necessarily make or break a story, but they do add depth and character. Then again, they’re personal. Even when an interview is fully on the record, deciding which elements to share with readers and which to hold back in the interest of a source’s privacy can be tricky. I worked hard to strike a considerate balance in the profile below, so once it was published, I was grateful to hear from Jeff Barton, who thanked me for my handling of his story. And how about those photos by Adam DeTour? Click the thumbnails below for larger views of the layouts or read the story on the magazine’s website.
