In 2007, when I first pitched this idea, I had to fight for it—hard. At that time, Boston’s Sam Adams was an anomaly, and my editor in chief wasn’t convinced craft beer was the next big thing. I kept at it. When it came time to schedule Chicago‘s July 2011 cover story, I had already lain the groundwork with this spread.
