Chicago magazine | July 2011
“Ale, Yeah! A Thirst-Quenching Guide to the Local Beer Scene,” was a long time coming. I first pitched the story to my editor in chief in 2007. By 2011, I had finally worn him down. He knew something I didn’t: We had to wait for our readership to catch up to the early adopters. Ultimately, the timing was right, and we both won. The story was a 2012 finalist for the City and Regional Magazine Association’s Best Food or Dining Feature Package. I spearheaded the project from conception to publication, a sprawling and satisfying assignment, in more ways than one.
